OPP: Are they willfully deceiving people or just too big for the right hand to know what the left hand is doing?
|
| It is our goal to do five things regarding the OPP:
1) To make sure the public is aware of investigations or lack of them. 2) To allow the public to know just how costly lack of Police action is to the public. 3) Send a clear message to the OPP - the public is watching and your actions are unacceptable. 4) The firing of OPP Commissioner Gwen Boniface unless she can clearly explain her two tier policing to a democratic people. 5) Put the fear of the public into the heart of current & future politicians who would dare to allow a two tier justice system in Ontario. |

Where are we at in our Goal?
|
| We have been promised a list of all criminal investigations in Caledonia - we hope the OPP live up to their promise.
This promise is a result of about 100 phone calls to the OPP making it completely clear we will not give up until the list is provided. Point 3 above has been strongly delivered to the OPP. We have made repeated requests to speak to the Commissioner - only she can explain her own actions. In a democratic society she is accountable to us. On this front we have mixed messages from the OPP Commissioners office. We had a 9.5 minute phone call with Constable Hawkins of OPP media relations. The first 4.5 minutes was spent asking one question about how much it is costing taxpayers for the OPP in Caledonia. We were told no numbers are known until after the standoff is over. The next 5 minutes were spent trying to find out when Gwen Boniface became OPP Commissioner - it appears to be top secret - and how do we arrange an interview with Gwen Boniface. We are clearly told no such interview will be given and no such arrangement can be made. It was clear that we would never be allowed to speak to the Commissioner. [Listen] What makes this interesting is that just after this call we spoke with Paula Wright, OPP Media Relations, who is one of the politest persons you can speak to. She didn't understand Constable Hawkins' response nor the idea that there is no way to arrange for an interview with the Commissioner. As we were putting together this post we suddenly received a call from Inspector Marty Karen, another polite person, who works directly under the Commissioner. We spoke for about 3 minutes and we were told to contact OPP media relations. We relayed our problems with speaking to Constable Hawkins. Listen now to how Inspector Marty Karen reacted to our request to interview the Commissioner. [Listen] We are at a loss which to believe, Inspector Marty Karen or Constable Hawkins who claims to be the OPP experienced personnel for the public to deal with? |
