John Tory Calls on McGuinty to show
LEADERSHIP TO RESTORE RULE OF LAW IN CALEDONIA |

For Immedi (Lucknow, ON) – Progressive Conservative Party Leader John Tory today called on the McGuinty Liberals to act to protect the safety and security of all Caledonia area residents as the situation continued on its 127th day. “The rule of law must return in Caledonia on all fronts,” said Tory. “Dalton McGuinty must finally show the leadership necessary to bring an end to the continued lawlessness. That means no occupation of any land by anyone; no lawless behaviour by anyone; and no defiance of court orders by anyone.” Tory added: “Dalton McGuinty should set an absolute deadline by which he must be satisfied that all of these conditions have been met. He should also call the leadership from all corners of the community to his office to tell them directly how determined he is to see the rule of law restored and respected. He should cease all negotiations until that happens.” Tory made the comments after another day of court proceedings today by Justice David Marshal. The judge expressed his frustration that the current situation is “destroying” his court because its orders have been ignored by various parties in the land dispute. He also noted the continuing acts of lawlessness. Tory also called on Dalton McGuinty to reveal all of the details of the land purchase of Douglas Creek Estates out of respect for the taxpayers of Ontario. “The taxpayers of Ontario have a right to know how much of their money is being spent on this and under what conditions,” Tory said. “Dalton McGuinty should also agree to an independent investigation looking into problems with land claims process and everything that has happened in Caledonia,” Tory said. “It’s time for some real leadership.” |
