Surprise - County unable to give Permit for March for Freedom
Oct. 1, 2006

Is anyone surprised that the County has found some reason not to issue a permit for the March for Freedom? What is interesting is just how creative the county is on the reason why such a permit cannot be issued. They tell me that even if I had applied for a permit back on Sept. 8, the day I called for the March, there would not have been enough time to process the permit.

B. Hugh Hanly, General Manager for the county, states, "In reviewing this information you will discover that we require quite a bit of lead time to process permit applications and you should be aware that if October 15th is your target date for this event, there is not enough time to process your application and take it before Council for approval. In fact, even if you had applied on the date you announced your march, which I believe was September 8th according to your website, there still would not have been enough time to process your application."

Of course we all should remember that Ken Hewitt called for a rally back in April and was able to get a permit and free insurance from the county in less than 5 business days. The following email is part of my reply to the County:

"It is my understanding that Ken Hewitt called for a rally back in April and the county not only issued a permit in less than 5 days but also provided insurance at no cost. I will remind you that Mr. Hewitt also called for his rally to be on DCE land. Could you please explain why Mr. Hewitt is able to get a permit in 5 days while you state such permits cannot be issued so quickly?"

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise - The County, not McGuinty, is trying to make the March illegal?
