Canadian Flags in Caledonia are illegal
Dec. 3, 2006
We received a phone call a few days ago asking us to be in Caledonia about 8:30 am to take photos. We were not told what was going to happen but we arrived in Caledonia to find dozens of people involved in putting up Canadian Flags along with yellow ribbons.

In the words of those who organized this event, the yellow ribbons were to show support for our troops in Afganistan and, of course, our flag to show our pride in our Country.

We found this kind of refreshing after a week of our political leaders being so quick to divide Canada into Nations. In Canada it appears no one in politics wants to say they are proud to be Canadian.

One would think that the OPP and their officers would be proud to be Canadian - proud to show respect for those who have died for the freedoms we have. But it appears once again the OPP, now under Fantino's leadership, is so ingrained with Two Tier Justice that the OPP are prepared to arrest anyone setting up a Canadian Flag because it may cause the Natives to become violent.

For those who have not been in Caledonia, the Natives have put up dozens of flags both on DCE land and outside of DCE land. (DCE land is currently owned by the Ontario Government)

Not only does the OPP allow the Natives to put these flags up they will arrest anyone who attempts to take them down.

The group responsible for this idea of putting up flags started on the North side of town and put up about 6 flags as seen in the first photo. Then they moved to the area across from DCE land where there are Native flags that have been there for well over a month.

The OPP seeing that non-Natives were going to put up a Canadian Flag called in for backup and quickly there were about 80 OPP officers present to stop the residents from putting up Canadian Flags.

Of course each officer claimed they were not present when the Natives put up their flags and therefore couldn't explain why that was okay while it was illegal to put up a Canadian Flag. The OPP charged one man who the 'Breach of the Peace" which to this date has been repeatedly used by the OPP as a make-believe charge that they know is completely not legal

There is no "Breach of the Peace" for having a coffee in a lawn chair (OPP arrested a woman back in Aug for that) or for putting up a Canadian Flag. Not one officer was able to explain how this "Breaches the Peace"

When you listen to the OPP it is clear the Breach is not in putting up a Flag or drinking a Coffee but in the reaction by the Natives. The OPP are so convinced that the Natives are violent people that nothing can be done by any Canadian that may upset a Native person because that Native person may respond with violence.

The photo to the right is of the person who was arrested for trying to put up a Canadian Flag near DCE land. He was just released and is being interviewed by CHTV. As always, in these cases where the OPP clearly know no law has been broken this person was released without any charges being laid - OPP claim trespassing charges may be laid.

The OPP claimed that the pastor of the local Baptist Church (beside DCE land) told the police to arrest people who were on their land - hard to imagine this and I am sure someone can verify this with the church.
