Dangerous Highways - Public Safety at Risk
OPP fail to tell public about danger and fail to take steps to restore public safety. |

We have come to believe that one reason the Natives attacked various media people over the past 5 months was because they knew the photos would come back to be used against them. Many may believe that the attack on a camera crew on June 9 was the only such event against the media. However, this is not true. This camera crew was not the only media that had their photos and/or video stolen - the Natives didn't want the public to see just how 'peaceful' they are. The photos to the right say more about the Native Peaceful Protest than all the words I could write. However, the purpose of this posting today is to make another point. These photos show a pattern - Natives have a habit of throwing items over the bridge. Over the months the Natives have barricaded the underpass by throwing many items over the bridge. |

| Damaged Vechicles:
Over the past few weeks there have been several trucks damaged. At least one truck had its tires damaged by a metal beam being thrown onto the highway. The truck was travelling along the highway at 4:20 a.m. on Thursday July 20th when he hit the beam that was on the road - see photo to the right. Haldimand Mayor Marie Trainer informed the public that two trucks have also had their windshields smashed by rocks thrown from the overpass. We see this as a major public safety issue. Can you imagine driving down the highway late at night and some rock hits your windshield. The difference between life and death here is mere inches. |

OPP Claim to be Interested in Public Safety
|
|
| We have heard from the OPP leadership that the reason why they have not stepped in to stop various criminal activities is because they are concerned about Public Safety. However, we ask who's safety are they interested in - the public or just Natives' safety?
Regarding the serious danger on the highway near Caledonia: Have you heard the OPP informing the public about this dangerous situation? Have the OPP told the public to watch out while driving down this part of the highway? We have noted that the OPP have 24/7 protection of the charcoal at the burned out bridge - in fact, we saw two police cars with 4 officers guarding the charcoal. Question: Why can there not be at least one car with two officers posted 24/7 at the overpass where serious harm could happen at any time? This is the same area where we saw wildfires, deliberately set, two weeks ago and therefore any 24/7 patrol of this area would also protect against additional wildfires. I am not involved with law enforcement, have no experience with where to position officers, but I think it makes a lot of sense to protect the safety of drivers by posting 24/7 protection at the overpass. Since we have at least three cases of vechicles being damaged by items thrown from the overpass I would think the OPP have all the evidence to support the need for such protection. If Public Safety is their concern Why not protect the public in these cases? |
