Feeling Guilty about Government actions towards Natives

One of the things Native groups have done a great job at in Canada over the years is to play the victim card continuously to the point where every politician, media outlet and citizen in Canada feels guilty for wrong doings of the past..

I, for one, do not feel guilty for the stupid things politicians did 200 years ago nor do I feel guilty for the stupid things politicians do today. Am I guilty for the Sponsorship scandal in Quebec, for the Chinese head tax 100 years ago, for the fact the GST is still here or for McGuinty's Health tax even after he promised no new taxes?

Yes, our politicians need to be accountable for their agreements with the Natives and any wrong doings that governments have done but I didn't take part in any of these actions nor do I approve of them. Trying to make me feel guilty is just pure propaganda to get more money from the government.

Can I hold Natives, either individually or collectively, responsible for every action of every Native Chief for the past 200 years? Can I find a case where non-natives were wronged by natives and then go to them and demand that they feel guilty for the actions of others?

In what way does the current Federal or Provincial Government take my personal values of life and apply them to deals they sign? If I am to be guilty then I must have either taken part in the action or stood by and allowed it. I can tell you that Canadian Governments have been shaped by many special interest groups and the average Canadian is removed from the process - so why then should an average Canadian feel guilty? All levels of government have lied to the Natives and they also lie to non-natives everyday of our lifes - what's new about that?

If you ask me, our founding fathers were fools. They were so anti-American, much like today, that any deal with the Natives was better than none. After 200 years and well over $1.5 trillion in payments to Natives we still have land claims that would require everyone man, woman and child to give every penny they make to the Natives for the next two years. Even with this we would still be paying $3000 per man, woman and child per year for the remainder of your life to the Natives. If you are a family of 4 then you personally pay $12,000 per year for the deals signed by people 200 years ago.

This is the deal signed by our Forefathers.

Do you think these people ever looked ahead before they signed?

Society, as a whole, has fallen for this. As soon as we hear the words Land Claims everyone automatically believes the Natives have been victimized. In the case of Caledonia, it is the Natives who removed their lawsuit form the court system and placed it into the political system. It is the Natives who don't want a Judge to simply review the documents and determine, based on black & white law, who owns the land. It is the Natives who have chosen the much slower method of political talks and who know full well the politicians decide, not based on law, but on what is best for the politician. A judge will rule one way or another on who owns the land. A politician will say, "Who cares who owns the land because all I want is to look like I am dealing with the issue." The politician doesn't care if it costs $1 billion to solve the problem because it is not his money. It is the headlines that say, "Politician 'A' has brought peace and unity to Caledonia"

That is why Natives want us to feel guilty and why they removed their claim from the courts. People who feel ashamed and guilty of their past will pay more money.
