DCE Protesters have the support of... No One
Oct. 24, 2006 |
| Other than maybe the OPP, the Native Protesters on the DCE land have no other supporters.
I think the court has been clear in Judge Marshall's ruling that they have no legal right to be on DCE land - any protesters on DCE after Mar. 22, 2006 are to be arrested, fingerprinted and photographed. Mayor Trainer, MPP Toby Barrett, MP Diane Finley, the Caledonia Citizens Alliance and even Dalton McWimpy have publicly stated the Native Protesters should leave DCE until the negotiations are over. The Band Council under the leadership of Chief General has voted against any further support for the Protesters. Of course the Protesters do not accept any of these people as having any authority over them - how nice. They claim that they have the support of the Traditional Council Chiefs (the Confederacy) and reject all "whiteman's" authority. |

Traditional Council Chiefs ordered Protesters off DCE land.
|
| What the protesters don't want the public to know is that the The Confederacy ordered all protesters off DCE land back on Apr. 20, 2006.
You got it folks! Their own Traditional Council Chiefs have not supported the protesters since April 20th. Why April 20th you may ask? That is the day the OPP raided DCE to remove the protesters as ordered by Judge Marshall. As a direct result of the violent reaction of the protesters to the OPP, the Confederacy told the protesters, "we thought it would be peaceful but it’s kind of gone beyond what we agreed to support in the beginning, so we’re not supporting it." This lack of support has not stopped the Native Protesters from continuing their occuption of DCE and their increased criminal acts against the People of Caledonia since April 20th. The Protesters simply believe “Screw the Confederacy council if they don’t want to support us.” One Protester stated, "For a couple of days, I was really confused. We don’t want to follow the elected system, but then our Confederacy system is telling us to walk away... I never saw one Chief there, not once in the entire blockade, I never saw a Chief." For those who do not know, the Natives have an elected Band Council, which I understand has little support since it was forced on them back in 1924. They also have their traditional council which many follow. Well, both councils are against the occuption of DCE land. So why are the Native Protesters there? Quite simply, they don't care who is against them or what documents prove what, they have claimed the land and they will not obey any authority that tells them to get off. But we are told we can Negotiate with these Protesters. By the way, here is proof for this story. [link] |
