VANCOUVER - B.C. aboriginals will be holding a march and rally in Vancouver Friday as part of the Assembly of First Nations call for a national day of action.
"This is a call to Canada to become aware of our issues," said Chief Judith Sayers of the Hupacasath band on central Vancouver Island. "It's our way of sending a message to the federal government."
The late-morning march is being organized by several B.C. native groups and will culminate in a rally at noon.
The Assembly of First Nations' plea for public support will see more than 100 events planned from coast-to-coast.
AFN chief Phil Fontaine continued to talk Thursday about the importance of peaceful action even as Mohawks were threatening unsanctioned blockades of the CN's line and the busy Highway 401 near Napanee in eastern Ontario.
